26th December, 2009. 5:51 pm. Lots of holiday food
The last week is a bit of a blur. I worked (though jetlag), had physical therapy, got a mammogram (scheduling lots of med as we ran through our deductible this year, darn the endochrinologist who decided to go on vac and bumped me to January) and slept when I could.
Thursday I didn't get off work until 3:30pm. I came home, slept for an hour and then we headed to Stephanie's traditional Xmas Eve dinner. It was lovely - great food and interesting conversation. There were nine of us this year, seven being veterans from previous years. It was nice to catch up, to engage the new folks and just generally be surrounded by good cheer.
Thursday we slept in and then went to see Sherlock Holmes. It was a loud, fast paced, modern action flick/buddy movie that happened to have two guys (and gal) with these classic names from Arthur Conan Doyle. I didn't hate it, but Jeremy Brett has nothing to worry about as the quintessential Holmes. Thursday evening we joined Denise & TC (and the same lovely couple with whom we had Thanksgiving whose names I have not learnt yet *sigh*) for a wonderful standing rib roast, parsnips, green beans, scalloped potatoes, mince meat pie and chocolate cake dinner with champagne and two 1985 cabernet savignons - a BV reserve and a Margaux something or other. Everyone else liked the BV best but I liked the Margaux better.
Today we got up and went over to talk to another furniture refinisher, this one with a shop in Campbell. Oh, I see I haven't mentioned that Russell is giving me refinishing of my dining room table for my birthday. <3<3<3 This guy seems very professional (37 years in the biz) and offers a decent price compared to the fairly disorganized amateur neighbor that we talked to earlier. The current one has an amazing museum in his shop dedicated to WWII pilots (of whom his father was one). He has a lot of period hardware and uniforms and all sorts of things. It is so cool when you run into someone with a passionate interest that they have really pursued.
Brigid & Fiona are supposed to be here for our annual holiday fondue dinner, so I'd better get off the computer!
Current mood: busy. Current music: The Toyes - I Smoke Two Joints.

26th December, 2009. 7:18 pm. Funny Story! Eve of Crashstruction
What our house looks like from the outside, thanks to Crash:

Yesterday, our cute little guy was all mellow and unhappy - sick from eating too much Christmas faux bone. He made up for that inactivity today, hunting his natural prey: the wild toilet rolls of the Serengeti. Here's how today went:
Frank (working at computer, notices Crash behind him on futon, chewing up a roll of toilet paper): Ahhhhh!!!! Crash!!!!!
Crash (dropping toilet paper, looking innocently): What's up?
Frank: AhhhhhhhHH!!!!!!
Frank picks up debris after Crash has t.p.'d the inside of our apartment.
Frank puts toilet paper in cabinet.
Five minutes later:
Frank: Ahhhhhhh!!!!!
Crash has opened cabinet, retrieved toilet paper, closed cabinet and dragged t.p. debris up and down the hallway.
Frank cleans up t.p. debris, puts a hairband to secure the door of cabinet.
Five minutes later:
Frank: AHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!
Crash has chewed through hairband, retrieved t.p. from cabinet, closed cabinet to hide the crime, and recovered the floor with t.p. debris.
Frank picks up t.p. debris, puts t.p. rolls on top of table in kitchen. Vacuums up entire apartment.
Five minutes later:
Brianna (who was listening to loud dance music and didn't hear vacuum cleaner): I thought I asked you to vacuum.
Frank: I did vac---- AHHHHHHHH!!!!
Crash has jumped on table, grabbed toilet paper and ripped it to shreds and coated floor with t.p. debris. In minutes.
Frank: I'm going to lock up Crash in his cage.
Brianna: No, that's not necessary. We can just put up the babygate and lock him in the kitchen. He won't get out.
Frank: Uh, yeah...
Five minutes later:
Crash (strolling into living room with t.p. in his mouth): What's up?
Frank: Ahhhhhh!!!!!!!!!

25th December, 2009. 8:18 pm. Things are bad...really bad
I don't know that I really expect this to get read. I don't know if it's holidays or what but lately, when I do post...I don't seem to get much (if any) response.
I'm trying really hard to not get too down but I feel like I'm failing miserably. Fact is, our financial situation is the worst it's ever been. We're down to one income. I have no more checks from EDD and it doesn't look like I'm getting anymore (despite the fact that I *should* have gotten the 2nd extension). We'll be able to cover January rent, car insurance and a credit bill that's due on the 8th. After that...I have to wait till fuzzydragon gets his next check on the 8th before we can cover anything else. We probably won't be able to cover February rent unless a miracle happens. This doesn't even begin to cover food, gas for the car and any other incidentals needed.
I *tried* to ask my dad for help. Yeah, that sucked...I shouldn't have even bothered. It was embarrassing enough to even have to ask...but then to have him more or less say no...that was too much. I can't seem to make him understand the situation in a way that will have him offer help that's actually *helpful*
So, since I can't count on him...here's what I can do.
I have stuff I can sell. Trouble is, selling on Ebay is an iffy prospect...especially now when no one has money and are looking for bargains.
I have a TON of comics that I've been wanting to sell anyway. There are a wide range of titles and it would take too long to list them all here (although I may put up a separate post for just the list). I have DC, Marvel, Image, Dark Horse..and a bunch of misc independent publishers. There are major titles like Wonder Woman, X-men (and related titles), Spawn, Sandman....etc.
If anyone is interested in anything, please let me know. If you're looking for something specific, let me know...I might have it. I'm not looking to get collector price for these as I know that's not realistic. If I can at *least* get cover price, I'll be happy.
I also have some RPG books (old stuff), some Pulp magazines (this was my dad's form of *help*. It may eventually help but it wasn't quite what we needed), and I also have a handful of crafty things I've made (magnets made from Sculpy, beaded things, etc)
Oh...I almost forgot...I'm also willing to do commission artwork. This could be pen and ink drawings, sculpy creations, beaded jewelry...whatever
Also, if anyone has anything that needs to be done that they would be willing to pay someone to do, let me know...I might be able to do it.
Seriously....we're kinda desperate.
Thanks.
Current mood: crushed. Current music: Queen: Fat Bottomed Girls.
